Why Students from India are choosing Germany for further studies?
There are many reasons why Indian students are studying in German universities. The main reasons are cheap tuition fee, flexible duration of course, many research options and good reputation of universities. Students mainly study technical courses in Engineering and management courses.
University and Career Opportunities
Universities have collaborations in research and development with Companies in various fields and research areas. Due to this, there are good opportunities for students to work as research assistants in universities and do internships in the industries. Due to presence of many industries and good infrastructure many students prefer the cities of Munich, Düsseldorf, Stuttgart, Berlin and Hamburg to study and work. Students can visit job fairs and learn about the jobs and opportunities in Germany and Europe.

As of the fall semester of 2022/2023, international students will be required to block a total amount of € 11,172.00 per year for their stay in Germany instead of the current amount of € 10,332.00. In my experience ,most students search for jobs in universities as student research assistants or as working students in companies. Most common areas where students can do part-time work is warehouses, restaurants, food and grocery delivery companies and supermarkets. The cost of living in bigger cities is higher hence students try to look for accommodation in shared apartments with other students. Special student hostels are also available where rent is lower. There are also discounts for students at many places like museums,zoos so that students can enjoy these places at lower prices.
Problems faced by students
First problem is the language barrier. It takes many months or years for students to learn the language well and use it in daily life or at work. As students are comfortable with English and Hindi it takes time to adjust to Deutsch. To help students, universities provide Deutsch courses and events where students can improve their Deutsch language skills.
Students also face problem of finding rooms or apartments due to language issues and since many rooms have high rents. It becomes very difficult to search for accommodation if you cannot speak Deutsch or your budget is low.
Another problem is the weather. We are used to hot and warm weather in India but here the weather is cold and rainy.

Students get access to world-class infrastructure for studies and research. Access to other countries in the EU for work or study purposes. As Indian community in Germany is growing, there are more events and options to meet fellow Indians who can help young students with their experiences. Co-operation between India and Germany is increasing every year and this can help Indians to study here and increase the business of German companies in India and help Indian companies to adopt new technologies from Germany.
