Celebrating Christmas with Bharat Verein

The year’s last month has begun. In winters 2010 we all were lucky to witness complete white landscapes and sceneries. December has always been Germany’s favorite holiday season. After all, Christmas is around the corner!!

And why would we Indians miss this event? In Frankfurt am Main one of the biggest association, “Bharat Verein E.V.” has stood up to bring the community closer to this festive season.

Bharat Verein organizes all kinds of festivals, may it be a National Holiday like Republic or Independence Day, Holi, Deepawali or Christmas. They have it all. After all Bharat Verein is there to represent all Indian Communities, may it be the Hindu Community or any other, as in this case the Christian Community.

This year Bharat Verein has again chosen the Saalbau Hall in Alt-Fechenheim, Frankfurt am Main, to hold a wonderful Christmas Party. The date finalized was the 12th of this month, at about 3.30pm. Now that the venue, date, and time was fixed a good entertainment program for the guests had to be planned out.

A Santa of course is essential for any Christmas Party. The first of various surprises was fixed. A young and vibrant youngster was asked to fulfill this task. Patrick Sharma loves children and is ever ready to bring a smile on to their lips. When he was asked, he came up with a completely new idea which was to be revealed later. But for that he needed his friend Anug Bagga’s company. Bharat Verein is open for new ideas and so confirmed their youngsters’ plans.

Bharat Verein has also seen Indians dancing in full mood so many times. Knowing that dancing is so popular amongst Indians, how could Bharat Verein miss out inviting a fabulous DJ? A great DJ, Stephen Lobo, was approached to make the evening even groovier!  But what else could be enjoyable for both, kids and adults? Musical chairs maybe? But yes! How would adults not enjoy their children participating in such a popular game!? The 3rd item was found. How about a game to entertain and also integrate the adults around? Tombola is a great game to do so! Being in contact with a great Salsa Dancer, Bharat Verein made it a point to invite him to the program and ask him to teach the audience some Salsa moves. But that would be a surprise to the public.

That is how the program slowly but surely was arranged. Bharat Verein always tries to involve as many youngsters as possible and invite new folk to their association. To moderate Bharat Verein’s Christmas Eve two young ladies were contacted, Ritambhara Bhatnagar and Priyanka Nagpal. Whereas Ritambhara was seen moderating the lucky draw at Bharat Verein’s Diwali Mela, Priyanka was a fresh face to now address the audience.

Delicious food has always been so important. So is it with the Caterer. This task was given to Mr. Subhash Ayri. He owns a restaurant in the TSG Saalbau Fechenheim.

Luckily Bharat Verein has dedicated volunteers who helped with small and big things. Gifts for all the children and prizes for the games were bought and packed. Invitations were printed and sent out. Decoration items were bought to add grace to the venue. A list of items was given to the moderators to prepare the event.

Finally, on December 12th volunteers met up at the Venue at about 1.00pm to decorate and prepare the hall. President Anil Aggarwal and Secretary- General K.C. Agarwal were present as well to guide and help out. As the day passed and the evening came closer more and more volunteers showed up to take their places. We had the cashiers at the cash counter.

At sharp 3.30pm guests started entering the venue. By 4.30pm the hall consisted of a good amount of audience. The scheduled program started at 4.45pm. After a short welcoming the snack buffet was opened. The President of Bharat Verein held a short welcome speech to all his guests. Soon after that the small boys and girls, under 10 year-olds, were called upon the main floor to play “Musical Chairs” with the hosts Ritambhara and Priyanka. We had Bilal and Shikha as finalists and then at last Shikha winning the game. She won a grand prize. But there were also consolation prizes for all participants. There were small toys, sponsored by McDonalds.  After having a great time with all tiny darlings the hosts proceeded with the evening and opened the dance floor. Since people first were too shy, we had only a small number of people dancing and enjoying the mood like anything. After half an hour of dance delight Santa Claus surprised us and the kiddos around. A great surprise was the speaking Sack of Santa. Santa one by one distributed all his gifts and enjoyed the happy faces of all children. When Santa moved on to the next Party and left us, even our program moved on. Volunteers distributed pens and a last chance to buy tombola tickets was given to the guests who gradually were about to become lovely participants. After a short pause the last game for the evening was about to start. Itika Aggarwal, another lively young lady joined the hosts to help out with the game. While Priyanka and Ritambhara were responsible for explaining the rules and reading out the numbers she would pick up the numbers. Telling the participants how to play, the prizes were also announced. There were prizes for completing each of the three horizontal rows, for completing the first  five vertical rows for the numbers  1 – 49 and the last four vertical rows for the numbers  50 – 90 and of course three prizes for the first three full houses. It seemed great fun to play with each and everyone. By guess almost no one was left out. Everyone had become a part of the evening. Bharat Verein felt great about it. Later on it did not at all take time for 80% of the audience to come forward and learn some wonderful Salsa steps from the Salsa teacher. Yes, as soon as the big surprise was announced we had old and young, males and females on the dance floor. Though there were only a few left at last to complete their lesson. Fortunately the dance floor filled up again when DJ Lobo entertained his guests with Bollywood hit numbers like “Munni badnaam hui”, “Sheila ki Jawaani”, and many more hot ‘n’ spicy songs.  And for all those who considered themselves bad dancers or couldn’t dance due to other reasons the fabulous dinner buffet was opened. Dinner and Dance was balanced out well. We had people eating while others were dancing and then the ones with full stomachs dancing while others were recharging their batteries. At around 10.00pm the hall slowly started emptying. After all, Monday’s are working days and school holidays were not on yet. Nevertheless we had a good amount of people staying till 11.00pm clicking fun photographs and dancing around.

Progressively Bharat Verein’s Christmas Evening came to an end, at about 11.30pm. Bharat Verein had a lovely experience and is glad to see their 2nd Christmas Party success after last year’s party. Asking the public Bharat Verein got a good response and was praised for all the hard work.

To sum it all up I can only say that I, for my part, had a great time. May it be the organizing part, the hosting part, the playing part, or the dancing part. It was great! I thank Bharat Verein for bringing people together.
